Meet Recap

After their first year as a program, East High School’s wrestling team competed with two wrestlers at the MSHSAA Class 2 District 3 tournament in Bolivar, MO. 138-pounder Kevin Rodriguez and Heavyweight Tamerick Turner finished the season off with 5-17 and 5-14 records respectively. Rodriguez started wrestling on Friday with a loss to Marcus Autrey of Buffalo High School by fall in the first period. After receiving a bye in the consolation first round, he automatically advanced into the Saturday portion of the tournament. Turner also started competition on Friday night. After a bye in the first round, Turner had a match up against Shane Sisco of Buffalo High School, the first seed of the bracket. He lost by fall in the first period. Saturday morning, Rodriguez wrestled in the second round of wrestle backs and lost by fall in the first period to Colton Shrewsbury of Nevada High School. Turner had a match on Saturday as well, wrestling Treyton Fleeman of Nevada High School, in which he lost a very well wrestled match in the first period.
There are a lot of positives from this season. Our athletes started the season with no previous experience with the highly technical sport of wrestling. Looking ahead, their will be much to look forward to in regards to growth in the sport. Look out for both Kevin and Tamerick to show a lot of improvement for next year.

If you are a student at East High School and you think that wrestling is for you, or if you are simply just trying to get better at another sport like football or track, contact Coach McCullough at room 202 or by email at mccullo@kcpublicschools.org
